Keiser University Sponsored Women in Automotive Scholarship Provides Solid Foundation for Career in the Field

Keiser University is pleased to award freshman Lena Wallace the Keiser University-sponsored Women in Automotive Scholarship.

Raised in an automotive dealership family, the Fort Myers, Florida native is thankful to work toward carrying on the tradition. “It’s in my blood so to speak. Since I was old enough to walk, my father took me to work at the family dealership that my grandfather founded in 1972,” reflected Wallace who learned the ins and outs of running a business from watching various family members successfully expand the organization despite challenges. “I knew from a young age that I wanted to follow in their footsteps and having the opportunity to witness what the women in my family brought to the table was also inspiring,” she said.

“Research indicates that women purchase or influence up to 85% of automobile sales, yet they are dramatically underrepresented in dealerships sales, service, and management positions. Studies also indicate that many females would prefer to buy their vehicles from their counterparts. This is why being able to offer scholarships to women to obtain a Keiser University Flagship Campus Automotive Dealership Management Bachelor of Business Administration degree is exciting, rewarding, and humbling. We are excited to see them excel in this industry,” said Dr. Martha Rader, Keiser University’s MBA Program Director.

Dr. Rader and the Women in Automotive organization designed the $20,000 Women in Automotive Scholarship to promote and empower females to enter the automotive industry. “Women are the main driver of automotive sales and need to be represented as such in our dealerships. Our program helps develop the necessary skills for these talented ladies to help lead the change in our business,” said Brian Bastin, Program Director for the Automotive Dealership Management program.

Women in Automotive was founded by six industry female leaders in partnership with JKR Advertising in Orlando, Florida, with the mission of assisting the automotive community in recruiting, retaining, and developing female employees and leaders. The group is particularly interested in empowering and developing women in the automotive industry with the philosophy that strong female leaders benefit the workforce and will help facilitate the training and hiring of more females in dealerships. The scholarship award is presented incrementally to a student over four years.

The Keiser University Automotive Dealership Management concentration is part of the Keiser University Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration degree. The program is offered both in a traditional on-campus and fully online delivery method.

Scholarship Requirements

  • Up to 2 female students will be selected per year
  • Scholarship will be awarded based on selection criteria of the selection committee.
  • Students must enroll full time at the Flagship Campus in the Automotive Dealership Management Program or any undergraduate program offered on campus.

Program Mission

The Mission of the Automotive Dealership Management Program is to provide a quality overall education experience, which provides students with the skills necessary for a successful career in today’s complex and changing automotive and vehicle retail distribution systems.

Program Description

Keiser University’s Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration: Automotive Dealership Management program prepares students with the skills needed to become future industry leaders. The curriculum examines various environmental factors influencing the automotive industry such as technological progress, consumer expectations, government regulation, and personal mobility. Students will be exposed to the unique challenges facing today’s automotive and vehicle retail distribution systems and graduates will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and techniques to thrive in this new environment.

Program Objectives

The overall objective of the program is to provide the student with the highest level of educational value in order to provide the tools necessary for success in today’s automotive dealership and vehicle retailing environment. Upon completion of this program, students are able to:

  • Comprehend and apply current concepts of automotive dealership and vehicle retail management organizations.
  • Comprehend, discuss, and apply regulatory and ethical practices.
  • Enhance research, communication and presentation skills using professional literature.
  • Demonstrate the integration of knowledge and professional skills.

Application Process and Selection Criteria

The following is the process to apply and of selecting the scholarship recipient for the above scholarship:

  • The applicant should direct a request and essay for consideration to either Mr. Brian Bastin at, or Dr. Martha Rader at 
  • The applicant must meet the admission requirements of Keiser University.
  • The applicant must attend the Flagship Campus as a full-time student.
  • The intent is to provide the applicant $5000 per year ($20,000 over four years).
  • The applicant must submit educational transcripts, either from high school or college, prior to being accepted to the university.
  • The applicant must submit a written essay of approximately 500 words describing his/her accomplishments to date, career aspirations, and what makes him/her a good candidate for this scholarship.
  • All applicants will be reviewed by the selection committee made up of Automotive Dealership Management faculty to determine eligibility and merit for this scholarship.
  • The recipient may attend Keiser starting January 2021 / Spring.
  • The deadline for submitting applications is December 4, 2020.
