Arabella works in research and program development at foundry10, and is able to use her experiences as the only woman in the office in her early tech career, and understanding of the importance of tradespeople from growing up in a military community to inform her work. As the lead interviewer for Research on Women in Auto, she is excited to share stories and strategies from women in industry.
Marcy Carsey was a partner with Tom Werner in the Carsey Werner Company, responsible for shows like “The Cosby Show,” “Roseanne,” “Third Rock from the Sun,” and “That 70’s Show.”
Born in Weymouth, Massachusetts to a dad who worked in the shipyard and a mom who taught her to always go for it, Marcy graduated from the University of New Hampshire and headed to New York to get a foothold in TV as an NBC tour guide at 30 Rock. She rose through many jobs on both coasts, culminating in being named head of series television at ABC in Los Angeles. Her mom cheered.
In 1980 she left ABC to form her own production company, and later Tom Werner joined her. They had a great run, and now she puts her energies into things like public education, social justice causes and chairing the Hammer Museum board. Marcy has two children, Becky and Pete, and three stepchildren.”
Lisa is the Co-founder and CEO of foundry10, an educational research organization tasked with redefining the ways people think about learning. She works with local automotive programs to support advanced projects and educating industry leaders of the future. She was inspired to study women in industry and to better understand their career pathways to assist younger women in their career pursuits.
In her role at foundry10, Anna uses her research background from her degree in cognitive neuroscience, experience working with students and passion for gender equity to co-facilitate the Research on Women in Auto. In 1995, Corina Diehl, and her husband Matthew, purchased Preston Automotive Group with Bob Preston as a partner. In 2002, Corina and Matthew bought out Bob Preston and Diehl Automotive was born. In 2007, Matthew Diehl died tragically, and Corina became the sole owner of Diehl Automotive and one of the few female dealership owners in the country. Since that time, Corina has purchased Diehl of Robinson in 2012, Diehl VW in 2015, CarRight Automotive in 2016, and Diehl of Grove City in 2017, and has built Diehl Automotive into the premier dealership in the Western Pennsylvania area.
Corina’s two children, Matthew and Rachel, also work at the dealership. Matthew Diehl started his collegiate career at the University of Miami and received his BA in Marketing. He then moved to Pitt Law, where he received his JD, and on to Carnegie Mellon for his MBA. Recently, Matthew passed the CPA exam and currently helps manages the Diehl stores. Matthew is also a partner with Corina at CarRight Automotive. Rachel Diehl recently graduated from Villanova and has been working in various departments in the Diehl dealerships to learn the business. Currently she is working as an Office Manager/Accountant at the Diehl of Robinson store and will be taking up an apprentice position with the Controller. Matthew and Rachel are both partners in Diehl of Grove City and Salem.

Cheri Fleming was born and raised in Parma Heights, Ohio and moved to Southern California after graduating from Ohio University. She and her husband, Don, have an entrepreneurial spirit and have owned various businesses; however, the car business “hooked” them in 1985. In 1997, Cheri and Don purchased Valencia Acura, and made the decision to put Cheri in the leadership position as Dealer Principal. As Director for New Car Sales and Volume Planning at Mercedes-Benz USA’s new headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, M. Bart Herring is responsible for new car sales for Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes-Maybach and smart products as well as strategies and activities which support our dealer network. Within this role, Mr. Herring also oversees Strategic Volume Planning and Field Operations.
Herring’s experience at MBUSA includes nearly 20 years in various roles including sales, product management, and financial services. Previously, Herring was Director of Product Management where he spearheaded the product and lifecycle strategies for the current vehicle portfolio.
Prior to MBUSA, Herring worked for Mercedes-Benz Financial Services where he developed programs for the research and implementation of commercial and wholesale loans for the Mercedes-Benz dealer network.
A resident of Midtown Atlanta, Herring holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Auburn University in Auburn, AL and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Lynne Kjolso is VP of Global Corporate Sales for Microsoft Advertising. A career search leader, Lynne has led sales, account management and operations teams for the Bing Network, with a particular focus on SMB’s and partner channels. Lynne has led search sales teams in North America, EMEA and Asia Pacific, and has played an instrumental role in the launch of the Yahoo! Bing Network globally.
Brian Maas is the President of the California New Car Dealers Association representing over 1,200 franchised new car dealers in the state. Brian directed CNCDA’s political activities and served as the Association’s chief legislative advocate for twelve years before becoming President. Previously, he was a lobbyist with the California Bankers Association.
Prior to working with trade associations, Brian spent 12 years practicing law with Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP as a specialist in political law and lobbying in San Francisco and Sacramento.
He also worked as a district/capitol staffer and committee consultant for Assembly Member Johan Klehs (1982-1988).
A native of San Leandro, Brian graduated from McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento with honors, and the University of California, Berkeley with a double major in Political Science and Rhetoric. He lives in Sacramento with his wife, Lisa, and two children, Jared and Natalie.
Kelly McNearney is Google’s Senior Automotive Retail Strategist based in Venice, CA. She has spent 5 years with Google coaching automotive retailers on reaching in-market shoppers with the right message at the right time. She has conducted keynote addresses at Digital Dealer, DMSC, ALR, the Google Automotive Retail Summit, AIADA, JD Power and numerous OEM-specific conferences.
Prior to joining Google, Kelly spent 9 years at ESPN in Customer Marketing and Sales. Kelly is a graduate of the University of Kansas with degrees in Journalism and Spanish. She is a thinkLA Person of the Year award winner and is the SoCal regional lead on GoogleServe, Google’s annual volunteerism initiative.

Carolyn Olavarria is a first generation Latin American and first generation college graduate. While living in New York, Carolyn was introduced to the automotive industry. She climbed the ranks to head Finance before leading the sales team. She moved to LA in 2011 to re-launch Honda of Downtown Los Angeles. Honda of Downtown Los Angeles is now one of the largest Honda dealerships in the country and Carolyn is the first Latin American, female General Managers for the brand.
Michelle began her automotive career filing in the Service Department. During high school summer breaks she washed cars and delivered parts then moved to accounting. After completing degrees in Finance and Economics at Kent State she returned to the dealership in Management roles.
Currently Managing Partner at Cascade Auto Group, Michelle is a graduate of the National Automobile Dealers Association Dealer Candidate Academy. She serves on the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles Licensing Board as Vice President. Michelle was the Time Magazine Goodyear Quality Dealer from Greater Cleveland in 2005. She
represents Women Dealers on the NADA Board of Directors and was honored by Crain’s Cleveland Business as “A Woman of Note.” In 2015 she received the Barbara Cox Manheim Automotive Woman of the Year Award and was one of Automotive News’ 100 Leading Women in North American Automobile Industry. Watters has dreamed of owning her own dealership for decades. She still thinks about it. But her current situation is “pretty great”. O’Gara Coach has 3 locations in Southern California and 15 franchises. It’s a who’s who of ultra-luxury brands – Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, Aston-Martin, McLaren, Koenigsegg, Alfa Romeo, and Maserati. In 2017, O’Gara sold over a thousand vehicles retail; they are the number one dealer in the world for most of the brands they sell.
She joined O’Gara in 2016 when the owners, Tom and his sister Maureen, contacted her to do some consulting work. It quickly turned into a full-time position as CFO and COO. Her years of dealership sales and operational experience gave her the tools she needed to bring the company successfully through a major organizational change and reestablish its place in the ultra-luxury world.
Watters attributes her success to good mentors, curiosity, and her childhood spent at her father’s marina in Atlantic City where she spent time with the boat technicians. This sparked an interest in cars which led to her first automotive job as a DMV clerk, while attending college to earn her business degree. But she had bigger plans.
As her career and passion grew for the car business, her drive led her to Florida where she became the Controller for an Acura store and later Lexus and Toyota. But that wasn’t enough. She set her sights on the GM position. She knew there would be many obstacles moving forward in this very male-dominated industry but was willing to face the challenge!
An opportunity with a Hyundai dealership in Los Angeles arose which turned into a 5-franchise General Manager position, still facing the male-dominated resistance. Male managers at times would not even acknowledge her leadership, however she persevered gracefully. Cherie’s reputation with Hyundai corporate brought her more opportunities.
Cherie became the General Manager for Puente Hills Hyundai, a start-up with a Korean owner who did not know the car business. As an experienced GM, she made almost all the operational decisions. Within 2 years, the company expanded to 3 dealerships and an in-house financing company under her leadership and guidance.
Chasing her dream of becoming a dealer, she has worked with the Factories and other dealer groups in the Southern California area to establish her “worth” – standing out from her male colleagues.
On a personal note, Cherie is a Breast Cancer survivor and has been cancer-free for over 4 years.
Watters continues to lead and be an example through numerous speaking engagements where she inspires women to challenge the stereotypes in our industry and reach for the stars! She has served on many Boards, including the Advertising Board for Hyundai corporate. She has received several awards and acknowledgements; notably the 2012 Women’s Automotive Association International “Spirit of Leadership” Award, and 2010 Business Woman of the Year, San Gabriel Valley.
Edie Wines brought 31 years of in-dealership experience to NADA in 2017. She began her automotive dealership career in the service department, working through the ranks as a cashier, warranty clerk, service advisor and dispatcher before moving into the parts department. Edie then transferred to the accounting side of the business and took on each position in the accounting office before becoming an Office Manager and Controller for independent stores, small and medium sized groups, as well as a one-hundred store dealer group. She has been instrumental in establishing and managing consolidated and centralized accounting offices within various dealer groups.
In 2001, Edie was selected for the General Motors Women’s Retail Initiative and graduated from the NADA Dealer Academy in 2002. She completed the GM Minority Dealer Program fellowship and became a General Manager for the March/Hodge Automotive Group. Following a brief hiatus in the business to focus on her education and instruct classes for the Small Business Development Center at Daytona State College, Edie returned to the retail automotive business as a Controller, followed by a corporate role and General Manager position, for the Hendrick Automotive Group. She was a participant of the inaugural Hendrick Leadership Academy and completed the NADA Dealer Academy a second time in 2014 as part of that program.
Edie has a BSBA in Accounting from the University of Central Florida, and is also a Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified F&I Professional and ATD Master Trainer. She resides in Edgewater, Florida and near Asheville, North Carolina with her husband.
