The 5th annual summer Women in Automotive Convention will take place at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida June 23th – 25th, 2019. The focus of the 2019 conference will be on educating and empowering women and men in the automotive community on thought leadership and trends that impact employment and sales growth.

The Women in Automotive conference educational content fulfills a gap in the automotive community. The goal is to move the automotive industry forward as it relates to the most influential segment of the market: women.

“More than 300 professionals from across the country attended the inaugural Women in Automotive Conference in 2015, and over 400 attended each in our 2016, 2017 & 2018 events. We expect our numbers to grow at an exponential rate in our upcoming 20198 event.”

9:25a   20m   Battle of the Sexes: How Women and Men Differ in Their Car Shopping Approach
Despite near equality in numbers, women make more than 85% of the consumer purchases in the United States. Buying a car is no different. In this presentation, we’re cracking the code on car shopping behavior by gender. How do men and women approach the car shopping journey differently? What do they care most about in a vehicle? How do men and women leverage reviews during their shopping process? What are they looking for in a dealership and salesperson? The data-driven intelligence is invaluable to both advertisers trying to reach car shoppers and dealers looking to close more deals.

What Women Want
Every year 4,000 verified car buyers and service customers are surveyed about all the things they consider before choosing a dealership. Close to half of those consumers are women with distinct differences of what matters to them vs. what matters to the men who were surveyed. We’ve filtered the results from Digital Air Strike’s 7th Annual Automotive Social Media & Online Trends Study by sex and have found some interesting preferences.

You Only Have 5 Hours – What Will You Do With Them
5 hours - the average number of hours dealership staff have when they are not in front of a customer. This is very telling as most of us run from task to task (or fire to fire) without any adherence to a daily playbook or process to guide us to be more productive, successful individuals. This will be a very interactive session focusing on building that process in session through text polling, live exercises and sharing our own success stories (and a few hurdles too).

Dealership Strategies & Tactics
Are Biased Factors Preventing Dealership Culture From Attracting, Engaging, and Retaining Female Employees
Women represent only 19% of a dealership's workforce. In many cases, it is the dealership culture, which is preventing this number from growing. Many old guard dealers either through outright bias or unconscious blind spots fail to see how diversity cultivates new ideas and innovation, which in turn brings in new customers and revenue streams. Even when women aren't being purposely excluded, dealership job descriptions and the work environment itself are keeping qualified applicants from applying or engaging and retaining female employees.

1:35p   20m   “Strategic imperatives for hiring, retention and career growth”
While the majority of vehicle buyers are women, research shows that they find themselves in a sales or service process that is generally male-centric and not optimized to their needs. CDK believes that the high level of dissatisfaction expressed by women automotive shoppers can be addressed in part by diversifying customer facing dealership personnel to reflect same shopper demographics. Changing workplace diversity in U.S. automotive retail needs to be a key goal for dealership senior management followed by a well-informed strategy. This strategy needs to include actions that change hiring, retention and career growth. CDK will present proprietary research results (2019) that inform these key strategic components.

Globally, women command $40 trillion dollars of buying power. In the US, nearly two-thirds of automotive purchase decisions are made by women. Yet, we are still designing cars that are intrinsically less safe for women than men. At the heart of Inclusive Marketing and Products, is the ability to empower businesses to open doors and reach audiences that are often overlooked, such as the 1 billion people around the world with disabilities. Inclusive marketing helps marketers deeply engage these audiences with immense buying power, in ways that resonate and remain an indelible experience fueling life-time value and long term growth. In this inspiration-packed session, we will explore how inclusivity can be a growth engine for business, and stoke your imagination on how far you can take this strategy in optimizing your business and your life.

Discuss the technician shortage and the status of the industry and how we can help change the stigmas about the trade to attract more technicians in to the industry. Discuss what is working and TechForce Foundation involvement and what the audience can do to help. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the automotive service Technician industry will face a shortage of 45,000 Technicians per year now through 2026. To fill this gap for our Ford dealers, Ford Customer Service Division (FCSD) launched TechDrive in 2018. This program is led by 21 Regional Technical Talent Placement Specialists across the U.S., dedicated to building the relationships between our Ford dealers and their local High School Automotive Programs. This is a dealer centric, grass roots initiative which entails dealer attendance in school advisory boards, student job shadowing, career fairs, parent/student tours of our dealerships, etc. The TechDrive team aims to recruit over 2,000 incremental Ford Service Technicians by 2020.

When we allow ourselves to dream, and then find the courage to pursue those dreams no matter what the risk, the results can often be far greater than we could have ever imagined not only for ourselves, but for the world around us. The Chevy Montage All Female Build was more than just a truck restoration build. It was an exercise in dreaming outrageously, creating a community, and challenging not only ourselves but the status quo. By sharing the inspiration behind the build, the lessons learned throughout the process, and the ripple effect that it continues to create - Bogi will motivate and inspire YOU to take action on your biggest dreams.

Kerri Wise has spent the last 20 years navigating the male dominated auto space and like many women has felt discouraged, overlooked and undervalued. In the past, she has allowed these moments to temporarily distract her and slow her down from achieving her goals. But the one thing that has motivated her to push forward is a healthy perspective of the unique opportunity in front of her. It’s so easy to compare ourselves to others and focus on what we don’t have, instead of asking ourselves, "are we taking full advantage of the opportunity in front of us?" For many women, the answer is unfortunately “No”. Kerri will share her life learnings on how we can seize the opportunity, get out of our own way, and execute past the barriers that we inherently face as women in auto.
